Built Together: A 1985 K5 Blazer, Finished Right
Some builds are about performance, some are about craftsmanship, and some mean a little more than that.
This 1985 K5 Blazer has been a father-daughter project from the start. It’s something they’ve been building together over time, piece by piece. When they brought it to us, it wasn’t about starting from scratch. It was about helping them get it across the finish line.
That last stretch is where things matter most.
We stepped in to handle the technical side—making sure everything worked the way it should, not just today but every time they turn the key.
We wired in sending units for oil pressure and water temperature on the LS so the factory gauges read correctly and verified everything through the ECU. We dialed it in so what you see on the dash is what the engine is actually doing.
From there, it was about making it drive the way it should.
We handled a rear axle swap, set up the emergency brakes, and built out a CV rear driveshaft. A full exhaust system brought everything together, and we swapped the oil pan to create proper clearance for the crossmember. It’s details like that make or break a build long term.
We also reworked the steering, installing a RedHead steering gear and converting it to the traditional drag link setup these early K5 Blazers are known for. Paired with Fox shocks and El Dorado calipers, it’s now set up to feel right on the road.
This customer has come back to us a few times, and each visit is another step forward, another improvement, another layer added to something that already meant a lot before it ever rolled through our doors.
That’s one of our favorite parts of what we do.
Not every project is a one-and-done build. Sometimes, it’s about being part of the process by helping customers refine, improve, and finish something they’ve already poured themselves into.
Watching this one come together—and seeing how excited they are to finally have it driving and running the way it should—has been just as rewarding as the work itself.
